Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation traces its origins back to the

year 1981, when the Sundara Swamigal Medical Educational and

Charitable Trust was established. Building on this foundation, the

visionary Founder-Chairman, Dr. A. Shanmugasundaram established

Vinayaka Mission's College of Pharmacy in Salem in 1982.


In a significant achievement, Vinayaka Mission received the prestigious status of “Deemed University” in the year 2001. This recognition was conferred by the University Grants Commission under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. This honour recognised the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, fulfilment of the highest academic standards and provision of exceptional infrastructure, all of which came together to establish its pre-eminence in education, thereby making it the 48th university in India.
